Socri Reim becomes owner of the Gaumont Comédie cinema in Montpellier
With this acquisition, Socri Reim confirms its status as a real estate operator committed to the revitalization of city centers.
After developing the urban commercial complexes of Polygone Béziers and Polygone Riviera, taking over the Galeries Lafayette in Béziers and Avignon, acquiring the premises of the Monoprix store at Polygone Montpellier which enabled the establishment of the Maisons du Monde brand, after the acquisition of the La Coupole shopping center in Nîmes in 2021, and the upcoming restructuring of the Monaco Fontvieille shopping center, Socri Reim confirms its commitment to urban retail with the acquisition of the emblematic building on Place de la Comédie in Montpellier.
This iconic 19th-century Haussmann building, which historically housed a Galeries Lafayette department store, has since 1998 housed a cinematographic establishment of the leading French group Pathé Gaumont offering 1,127 seats across 8 screens, for a total of approximately 1,800 m² over 4 levels. The largest screen alone can accommodate 364 people.
Socri Reim consolidates its position as a property company on the Mediterranean arc, specialist in city center commercial assets, through this acquisition about a hundred meters from its historic headquarters located in the Polygone office tower in Montpellier.
The Pathé Gaumont group will remain in place as a tenant.
The transaction was financed with the support of Crédit Agricole du Languedoc.
Nicolas Chambon, President of the group, specifies: “This is a natural and important acquisition for Socri Reim which continues its policy of revitalizing city centers. Montpellier is a city that holds a special and choice place in our group’s history. It was therefore natural for us to be interested in this takeover. We thank the Gaumont group and our financial partners for their trust.”
